The New Plac Zawiszy

Project

The project itself will leave the decisions regarding use of public spaces to the participatory design, and focus on three aspects : re implement greenery and green spaces, design an agencement of varied functions for promoters and economical viability of the large scale project, and reorganization of the public transportation and private transportation distribution. These three main points will be put into place separately, letting the phasing be organized also spatially.

The fact that the square already is a transportation hub is taken into account, and the two train station being linked is part of the project, implying various spatial consequences : underground work, covering part of the railway and designing paths linking them. An entrance to the most commercial area is being built, which will also link it with exterior spaces, and thus make it more enjoyable than the typical mall. The upper part of the commercial forum will be used for offices mainly, and the further we go from the rails, for housing.

This closeness of functions will allow more activity and vivacity, and enforce a dense design, of which the most interesting consequence is the formation of an urban landmark with the 160m tower facing the train station.

The building occupying the central space, a triangular plot now assigned to parking space, will also be one the most important parts of the design, as it constitutes the most visible element, building the new identity of the square.

Program

In modern cities, transportation hubs are new centers of the city life and that is why we designed the station and the space surrounding as a space for people. We propose interesting and diverse program that will not only meet the basic needs of the people passing through this area, but will also be attractive to residents. We want people to visit the Zawiszy Square and feel the real vibe of Warsaw – it’s culture and art, but also to be able to relax or have fun with family and friends.
